Project Overview
Masters Events 2025: Healing Our Relational World brought together some of the most influential voices in trauma, mental health, neuroscience, and human connection. Held across Oxford’s most iconic venues – Trinity College, the Sheldonian Theatre, Exeter College, and the New Theatre – it offered a powerful space for learning, reflection, and community.
This year marked my third consecutive year capturing the conference, following the stories unfolding both onstage and behind the scenes. From intimate moments of connection to world-renowned experts sharing groundbreaking insights, the aim was to record not just the event, but the emotional essence of it.
Cinematography & Techniques
Rather than traditional conference videography, the filming approach focused on cinematic rules: intentional framing, composition, movement, depth, and natural light.
Every talk – from Bessel van der Kolk, Richard Schwartz, Dan Siegel, Tara Swart, Paul Brunson, Esther Perel, Ruby Wax, and many more – was captured through a lens designed to elevate the material beyond documentation.
Working fully on-foot in a run-and-gun style across multiple Oxford venues, the goal was to blend responsiveness with artistry. Each room, each atmosphere, each speaker had its own rhythm and the cinematography adapted moment-by-moment to honour it.
Visual Storytelling
The narrative followed the theme Healing Our Relational World – weaving together the emotional heartbeat of the conference.
Behind-the-scenes interactions, moments of laughter, the quiet grounding before a talk, and the hum of connection between attendees all became part of the story.
By blending these moments with the expert teachings on stage, the final visuals reflect not only what was said, but what was felt – the energy of people coming together with a shared intention to heal, learn, and grow.
The Final Result
The footage was shaped into a cinematic end-of-conference film, premiered at the New Theatre in Oxford to close the event.
The final piece highlights the depth, connection, and collective spirit of Masters Events 2025 – not just as a conference, but as a movement dedicated to transforming how we understand trauma and relationships.
This project stands as a testament to the power of storytelling within the trauma and mental health world – capturing not only the expertise of global leaders, but the lived humanity at the heart of the event.
