Project Overview

IMMH 2025 – Integrative Medicine for Mental Health brought together some of the most influential leaders in mental health, integrative medicine and trauma-informed care. Held over four days in San Diego and led by Kiki Newman, the conference hosted globally recognised speakers including Gabor Maté, Matt Bernstein, Robert Lustig, Rick Doblin, JJ Virgin, and many more.

My role was to document the heart of the event – from the teachings and breakthroughs on stage to the moments of connection happening throughout the venue. The goal was to create a cinematic, emotionally resonant record of the conference rather than standard event coverage.

Cinematography & Techniques

The filming approach centred on cinematic storytelling rather than traditional conference videography. Each talk was captured with intentional framing, movement, and composition – using cinematography principles that elevate the educational content into something visually powerful.

Working run-and-gun across multiple rooms and environments, I focused on staying responsive to the energy of each speaker and the flow of the audience. The aim was to bring artistry to the fast-paced environment, ensuring the visuals matched the depth and importance of the topics being explored.

Visual Storytelling

The narrative followed the core purpose of iMMH 2025 – expanding understanding of integrative mental health and bridging disciplines to support healing.

Throughout the conference, I captured behind-the-scenes moments, conversations between attendees, emotional reactions to the talks, and the subtle human details that define the atmosphere of an event like this.

By weaving these moments together with the expert teachings, the story reflects not only what was presented but the sense of community, curiosity and shared purpose that shaped the conference.

The Final Result

The footage was crafted into a cinematic end-of-conference film, shown on the final day as a collective reflection on the four-day experience. The final piece highlights the insight, energy, and emotional depth of IMMH 2025 – celebrating both the experts on stage and the community gathered to learn from them.

This project stands as a tribute to the growing movement within integrative mental health, capturing its spirit, its leaders, and its commitment to transforming how we understand and support human wellbeing.
